Why you Should Consider Having a Second Kitchen

Fratantoni Design • September 22, 2020

A trend we have seen a lot lately is homes having 1.5 kitchens. Here’s why you should consider having a second kitchen in your home and some second kitchen ideas.

Why you consider having a second kitchen

A second smaller kitchen adjacent to the main kitchen also known as a prep kitchen or scullery is coming back into style in modern home design. Here are the reasons why you should consider including one in your home.

The purpose of the second kitchen is for food preparation, cleaning, and storage. It’s a space where you can conceal the mess of cooking or entertaining away from the main kitchen. People always seem to gather in the kitchen and around the food at parties. With a prep kitchen, your main kitchen becomes an additional dining area free from the mess of food prep and dirty dishes. Another great part about having a prep kitchen is you can create more wall space in your kitchen for windows or art to be displayed. As a result, you don’t have to sacrifice storage space to create a beautiful open kitchen.

Second Kitchen Ideas

How to Use the Space

Include a dishwasher and sink to make it easier to move the mess out of the main kitchen area. Also, a good amount of counter space preparation. Also, for displaying your kitchen appliances like the toaster or coffee maker. This will help free up a ton of space in your main kitchen for everyday food prep. This room also creates space for larger appliances like a second refrigerator/freezer or wine cooler.
